Gerrie Isabell-McCottry

Power Boat Skipper
Chillin’

Gerrie’s calm, cool, and collected manner gives her a presence of mind to grow and excel at whatever she puts her hand to do. She has enjoyed spending time on the water since her teenage years, when she and her now-husband would carry their boat overhead down to the water. That small craft has morphed to larger and larger boats as their family grew. At a certain point, she decided that she wanted to learn to handle the boat. Not only for safety reasons of having two people on board who can control the vessel, but also because she truly enjoys mechanics and piloting. Her adventures behind a wheel have included motorcycles and World War II legacy planes and even a guest spot at the helm of a 95’ tour boat. Driving their own boat, she has come in to port under the video eye of many audiences, ending in applause at her steady and precise docking. She is a huge proponent of allowing people to build confidence in their boating skills, recognizing that it takes time, both to trust yourself and for others to trust in you. She is now passing on her enthusiasm for the helm to her granddaughter, a young girl who loves to drive the boat and read charts and is in turn passing on her knowledge to other girls in the family.
