By showcasing these leaders, we are adding recognition of the incredible women among us and normalizing the fact that all genders can excel behind the helm.

The Her Helm project began in Maryland and Virginia. The waters of the Chesapeake Bay host an abundant plethora of boating activities and livelihoods. From 2020 until 2023, the project traveled up and down the Bay, including women from all walks of life and all manner of boats. The Chesapeake edition of Her Helm culminated in a fine art portrait book. A special exhibit at the renowned Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will be on display through 2024.
