Nicole Trenholm

Licensed 100 Ton Boat Captain
RV Marie Tharp

Nicole’s two loves are sailing and marine science, and she’s like a kid in a playground in either environment. She has double handed research trips to the Arctic, Northwest Passage, Atlantic Ocean, and Pacific Ocean. She’s sailed to Japan and then enjoyed hiking Mount Fuji in a typhoon. She has a special soft spot for oyster schooners and other tall ships. Her current adventure is refitting a 72 foot Bruce Roberts Voyager 650 for another Arctic trip, on which she will be the science operations lead as they conduct research in support of the United Nations’ Decade of Ocean Science. Her enthusiasm for playing on boats and for furthering our knowledge of our planet is supplemented by an appreciation of the beautiful environment in northern latitudes. She describes the glaciers, animals, colors, geology, and aurora with a lasting reverence. And she fell completely in love with the Greenland sled dog puppies.
